Sorry for not posting in a long time! I've been super busy but now that school is coming to a close (with the exception of AP Exams), I am hoping to post more often. Recently, I was accepted into Cornell University (Class of 2021)! I am more than positive that I will be attending there and I am excited about the many more adventures and photos to come. Here is a red flower pedal in celebration. Go Big Red! For any Cornell students out there, add me on Instagram - hsiaoal3647

1/16/2017 0 Comments Splash of ColorI've been trying to make my portfolio more diverse, so I went out of my way today to setup this shot. I took a black plate to use as the base and then used a blue towel in the background to block the mirror's reflection (I was shooting on top of a sink). The towel also added color and texture to my shot since I did not have any sort of professional backdrop available to me. I borrowed a 20 year old SunTax Speedlite to increase the power of my camera's flash and keep my exposure low (1/500). It took some time to setup but in the end, it was worth it.
1/7/2017 0 Comments Juxtaposed PhotoshopI have not had time to upload a picture in awhile, but I am taking photography this semester and I am so excited to begin. I have finished all my college applications which has left me with more time to explore the world around me. I have started to learn how to use photoshop and other image and video editing software. I took a photo of the moon during Thanksgiving break and I merged it with a picture of my nightlight. Though the colors are very similar, they contrast the two objects at the same time through the texture and the basic knowledge that the two objects are nowhere close to each other.

I shot this a couple days ago on a cloudy and windy day. I used a Manfrotto tripod which I highly recommend for shooting timelapses as they are lightweight and sturdy. However, in order to shoot a timelapse, you also need a timing mechanism. A lot of DSLR cameras now come with an interval timer shooting mechanisms installed inside of the camera (which is what I used), but if your camera does not have one and you want to shoot a timelapse, a remote timer would be extremely helpful. These can be found online or in your local camera store.
